Review – Chia Charger Bites

Chia Chargers...yummy and healthy! Cool name too. ;)

Ok…so you’re probably thinking “you guys like Chia Chargers just because of the name”. No, but I will admit that’s a pretty cool coincidence.

Now down to the nitty gritty. What’s up with this Chia Charger stuff? Basically, it’s an energy “bite” (not really a bar, not a muffin, but a smushed up mini-muffin type thing. Look at the pics). On paper, this stuff looks great:

  • Has chia seeds which are loaded with antioxidants, lots of potassium, omega 3 and 6…just a darn good superfood.
  • Whole oats – good for the heart
  • Peanut butter – yum! And good for you
  • Pecans and walnuts – more good sources of healthy fats

Taste - I’m always skeptical of that first bite of an energy bar, nutrition bar, diet bar, whatever bar. My first bite had the peanut butter and a tad bit of paprika. Nice. In fact, it tasted downright good. It wasn’t sugared up to mask a chalky nasty taste, it just had a good flavor to it.

Consistency - My least favorite part of the “insert whatever name here” bars…consistency. Usually too dry, too chewy, too hard…such a pain, especially while you’re running or biking. Who needs to concentrate on getting that bite off the rest of the bar or spend all that energy trying to chew the damn thing? Not me. These were easy to bite off…or even better they were small enough to cram the entire thing in your mouth if need be. Easy to chew, easy to swallow without requiring a mouthful from your water bottle. Good job guys!

Healthy numbers - One Chia Charger has 120 calories, 14g of carbs (3g of those fiber), 4g of protein  and 8g of fat. That’s actually a near perfect ratio of 4:1 carbs to protein. Perfect for an endurance athlete.

Final opinion - Love them. Love the fact there’s something that tastes good that is also good for you. It’s basic in its ingredients list, no strange chemicals or whatnot, just wholesome stuff to power you through your event. There’s a reason we wanted to partner up with these guys, and this is why.

Recommendation - Get them.
