Age - 37
Years Running - Ummmm…off and on for about 17. Also depends on how you define “running”.
What Type of Running Do You Do? - Right now, nothing…hyperextended the crap out of my knee in soccer a couple months ago. Before that, just short runs before work and an occassional 10K here and there.
Why Did You Start Running? - My roommate in college used to harass me to go running all the time. I was a bit heavy, he was a Marine ROTC cadet and ran cross country in high school. Eventually I gave in just to get him off my case, then enjoyed the runs with him, eventually feeling the need to go running every morning just to get my day started off right.
Weekly Mileage? - Now, nothing. Argh! Normally, around 20.
Accomplishments - Nothing noteworthy yet. I’d like to get an ultra in sometimes. Reading about the Run Bum Heros we have already, I’m stoked and inspired!
What is Your Most Memorable Run Moment? - None in particular yet.
What’s the Hardest Thing You’ve Ever Run? - The Bay to Breakers in full costume, in heavy boots, in the rain. No, it wasn’t some crazy distance that gave me trouble but it was hard for me for the mere fact I couldn’t just run the whole thing like I normally did.
What’s Your Favorite Race? - The Wharf to Wharf (pretty much a 10K) in Santa Cruz. Great vibe there.
What is the Race You Crave to Run the Most? - Big Sur Marathon
Your Favorite Running Spot? - Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. That’s where it all started, great trails, nice hills.
Your Favorite Post-Run Meal/Drink? - Hot dogs and beer.
Heros - My mom who continually teaches me lessons in life even though she passed away last year. Lance Armstrong for not only being such a fighter but also for being so self-less and using his notoriety to help the fight against cancer.
Goals for 2010 - Get the knee fixed and put in my first marathon.
Advice to Other Run Bums - Lose yourself in your runs and don’t let it become “work” or something you “have to do”.
